Diwali Dinner 1

Diwali is one of the many international dinners that Brentwood hosts. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and traditionally takes place in November in the northern hemisphere. International dinners are organized by the Students Activities Council (SAC). The SAC put a lot of time and effort into planning these dinners while also being their own set-up and clean-up crew. Students from India and other volunteers helped to serve fantastic food with the sound of Indian music booming in Crooks Hall. The cafeteria was dimly lit to accentuate the colorful lights at each table. The Food Services Staff prepared a delicious menu that consisted of traditional foods such as samosas, butter chicken and naan, shahi paneer and some sweet desserts. The savoury butter chicken was incredibly flavourful. The dinner had a great turnout of students and faculty. Pleased comments were made about the food by all. One of the servers and organizers of the dinner, Sanjana V, Alex ‘19 said, “The smell of turmeric and Indian spices reminded me of home.” These special dinners allow students and faculty to get a sense of the diverse community that we are all a part of. They are a great way to interact with people and get a taste for their cultures and where they also call home – besides Brentwood. Diwali dinner was a tremendous success and we are looking forward to our next international dinner which will be taking us all the way to Japan! Hannah C, Alex ‘19
