Eco Challenge 2011

They came. They competed. They won. Students started off the year with style and charisma as old and new Brentonians alike made their way to a waterfront colourfully decorated in blue, green, red, and orange. There was no shortage of support and enthusiasm as students cheered for their interhouse teams at this year’s Eco Challenge. The area by the Brentwood docks was buzzing with anticipation as the double kayaks kicked off the day’s events and scored the year’s first win for Rogers House. The loud and encouraging cries of Ellis, Privett and Whittall houses could no doubt be heard clear across the bay as kayakers, runners, canoe pairs and swimmers pushed themselves to their limits to fight for their houses. And the excitement didn’t stop there. As the afternoon’s events progressed, the cheering sections became more and more enthusiastic and encouraging. As David L raced across the grass to push the Rogers House canoe into lead, the bystanders exploded in thunderous applause and praise. With the combined efforts of the passionate Jon C, a strong armed John M, the swimming talents of Bella L and the impressive (and speedy) fire-building skills of Parker R, Rogers came out on top maintaining an impressive lead for the remainder of the event. The day’s activities certainly bonded old and new Brentwood students alike as everyone heartily supported their houses in their wins and, in true Brentwood style, even their losses. Though Rogers House was the overall winner of this year’s Eco Challenge, this is just the beginning. The gloves are off, and with a surplus of interhouse pride, this could well be the most competitive and exciting year in recent memory.
