Eco-Challenge Excellence

11 September 2012Samantha D

Brentwood’s interhouse competition commenced in fantastic form as the Brentwood community filled the waterfront and Founder’s Plaza last Friday to watch the 2012-2013 Eco-Challenge. Oranges, blues, greens and reds flooded the grass as each of the 4 competitive houses came together.

Celebrating their house’s accomplishments during each leg of the massive relay, old and new Brentonians united with an enthusiastic vigor. Kicking off the day was the double kayak, with Rogers and Privett quickly gaining the lead.

Battling for placement through a course featuring a 3km run, a shelter building challenge, and a 100m swim, Rogers became the Eco-Challenge champions for the second year in a row after they built a five minute lead following the completion of the orienteering task.

Just like the fire building station, the morale of the competition burned brightly the entire afternoon. The houses quickly formed cheering sections, visibly divided by the colours of their houses. Privett remained undaunted even as they placed 4th, running beside their swimmer, Marius S, as he jogged towards the finishing bell.

Although Rogers now has a slight lead in the interhouse standings, this is only the beginning. As the weeks continue, these houses will again clash and new winners will be crowned.

Special thanks to Mr. Norman and the volunteers for their time and contribution to this very smoothly run event.
