France Rugby Tour 2009 – Update

20 March 2009marlese plater

Bonjour from the South of France…
DAY 5: Friday, March 20th, 2009 – Bergerac, sunny and 28°C. The senior boys rugby team is off to a flying start with a convincing win against Union Bordeaux Begles (39-26) on Tuesday last. Led by captain Nick Philippson, the team played very well, demonstrating free flowing finesse and sportsmanship. The score is representative of two games, played back to back involving both the 1st and 2nd XV’s, with everyone participating. Enthusiastic spectators included Brentwood family and friends, French fans, and a visiting coach from Dax, who appeared to be scouting the Brentwood boys.  The team faces their second opponent, Union Sportif Bergerac, this evening at 19:00 hours under the lights. Off the rugby pitch, the boys have enjoyed exploring the streets of Bordeaux, touring the wine caves, churches and historic architecture of St. Emillion, all the while exercising their taste buds on French cuisine.  To celebrate Michael Livingston’s birthday, tour participants competed in the first annual M.A.L Bowling Championship at the local Bergerac bowling alley. Statistics are currently being calculated and the winner will be announced on the beaches of Bayonne. Tomorrow we will be treated to medieval experiences in Sarlat and then we are off to Dax on Sunday. Au revoir!
