Game On, Fall Edition

Fall-term sports are back and stronger than ever! With girls’ volleyball and field hockey, boys’ soccer, and co-ed cross country, the first-term competitive sports are ready to kick off the season with incredible passion. Additionally, rowing, tennis, rugby, basketball, and ice hockey are getting a jump on their competitive seasons, with rigorous training already taking place.

Both students and coaches alike are incredibly excited for the season ahead. Coach Jill Fougner, Head of Volleyball, stated, “The fall season is always an exciting time at Brentwood, as we have boys’ soccer and girls’ field hockey and volleyball starting up. Being on a team is a great way to form new friendships and renew old ones. Fall sports kickstart what will inevitably be a busy and sporty year at Brentwood.” The Brentwood athletes and coaches approach the coming season with optimism and drive.

As teams prepare for the competition, excitement and nerves are palpable. The competitive field hockey and volleyball teams have started competing and are “showing great progress,” says Co-Captain of Field Hockey Sierra E, Mack ‘25. Assistant Senior Soccer Captain, Youto I, Whittall ’25, stated the season is “off to a great start with a second place finish at ISAs” (Independent School Association). With over a month left of competition, Brentwood athletes are raring to leave their mark on the season.

Now that fall-term sports have started back up again, student-athletes are discovering what it means to “Be Brentwood Good” a term used by long-time Coach Jill Fougner to demonstrate what it means to be a Brentwood athlete.

As tournaments, exhibition games, and diligent practices occur, students are filled with an immense sense of gratitude and admiration for the coaches and staff who make it all possible. From setting up goalposts and tents on Gillespie Field to starting up the scoreboard in the Foote Gym, it is clear that the ambition of students in their athletic endeavours is heavily supported and encouraged by the whole Brentwood community. So on behalf of every student-athlete, I would like to thank both the people who work so hard behind the scenes and the ones who consistently stand on the sidelines for their continued support.
