The first week at Brentwood came to a close last Saturday. Students attended their first days of classes and participated in their sport in the afternoon. To cool off after working up a sweat, all students were invited to a swim and slip ‘n’ slide by the waterfront. This was the first of many opportunities for students to befriend each other that evening. Following the waterfront fun, everyone was invited to a BBQ dinner on the plaza. Students and staff alike indulged in burgers, salad, cotton candy, and floats.  After the meal, there were various games and prizes to keep everyone entertained. Mr. Bryant led a game of Simon Says. Roughly 60 people joined in and after 15 grueling minutes, he settled on two winners: Ayo O, Privett ‘18 & Haley F, Mack ‘19. Next was a game of Water Balloon Toss, where participating pairs tossed a water balloon from increasing distances until the balloon popped. Ellis House portrayed their dominance in the event with a tie between Griffin FK, Ellis ‘18 & Lanny L, Ellis ‘18 and Joe M Ellis ‘17 & Cameron W, Ellis ‘17. In the final game, one participant from each house was tasked with finishing two pieces of watermelon without the use of their hands. In an extremely sloppy event, Madison P, Alex ‘17 won the watermelon eating, defending her crown from the year before. A few hours later, Brentwood hosted its End of Summer Bash, where students danced the night away to music DJ’d by Brentwood’s “Calvin Harris” Santiago G, Privett ‘17.  Saturday night was a great way to bid summer farewell and start the new school year well. Thank you to Mrs. McLean, Cate B, Allard ‘17 and everyone else who helped make it possible! Olamide O, Privett ‘18
