Investing in Financial Accounting & Macroeconomics

Currently, in my Financial Accounting & Macroeconomics classes, we are acquiring important skills that I apply in my life, investing and day trading. I learned skills through our stock market challenge in Financial Accounting. Using relevant economic principles such as the potential ramifications of national policy on specific markets and individual businesses, I am able to make better-educated decisions in my personal investments.

Understanding economics can give investors the tools to predict conditions and understand the implications of those predictions on companies, stocks, and financial markets, including cryptocurrencies.

The stock market challenge is currently taking place as a part of the Financial Accounting 12 class with the accounting master, Mr. Gage himself. Students use a virtual stock market simulation to experience what it’s like to make investments in the NYSE. In class, we explored some short-term high-risk/reward investment strategies like day trading and swing trading where we take advantage of the volatility and fluctuation of an asset to more long-term passive strategies like buying and holding and indexing with less risk. These virtual stock exchanges allow us to experiment in the real-world market with real-time stock prices. Students learn by making trades and learning from their mistakes as well as what worked for them.

In Microeconomics & Macroeconomics class with Ms Napier, we learn about the basics of economics, the study of scarcity, and the implications for the use of resources and goods & services which, believe it or not, correlate with the fluctuations of all kinds of financial assets such as stocks, bonds, and cryptocurrencies. Understanding economic principles such as shifters of supply and demand in the money market, loanable funds market, and foreign exchange market has helped me grow as an investor.

Brentwood also offers a Business Club, Introduction to Business 11, and Entrepreneurship 12, so if you have an interest in business, Brentwood is classy.
