Junior A Volleyball – Lights, Camera, Action

The 2013 Junior A Volleyball season could be compared directly to the plot of an action movie. Like the staring protagonist, we had great strength and athleticism, but initially the competitiveness just wasn’t there. Our story as a team had millions of possible endings. The first tournament we played in was the Brentwood Invitational. Being thrown into our first games early in the season, we started off a little shaky and ended the tournament 7th out of eight teams. Learning more about positions and about the game, our team grew stronger. At the Isfeld overnight tournament we came 2nd in our pool and finished 6th out of 12, a considerable improvement. This tournament really brought us together as team and as a family; many memories were made, some that can be shared and some that should never be spoken of again. Our 3rd tournament, which was ISAs, was where we realized that we could go far. We went to the 3rd set against one of the best teams and won 15-13, finishing 4th out of 12. This event brought us together as a cohesive unit on the court, mastering our movements and our strengths. Our penultimate tournament of our season was the climax of our action movie; Mid Islands showed our strengths as an amazing volleyball team. It was a double knockout format: lose two games and you’re out. After losing our first game against Duncan Christian School, it was a do-or-die situation; we would need to win at least 5 matches in a row, and that’s exactly what we did. Our final game was against undefeated Duncan Christian so to win Mid Islands we had to beat them twice in a row. The final game was stressful and filled with adversity, but we pulled through and won Mid Islands and ended our season off strong at Islands with some great battles. This season was fantastic and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to play with. That’s how the story of the Brentwood College Junior A Volleyball team ends, just like any good action movie; with the 13 of us, Monica, Brittney, and Mr. Robinson walking off into the sunset.
