Junior Boys Win Openers at Islands

Competing in the Islands Championships for the second year in a row, the Brentwood Junior Boys had a fantastic first day of soccer. We opened against SMUS, who were the #1 ranked team in the pool, and a team we had lost to earlier in the season. We started strongly with a headed goal by striker Brendan K, which put us up 1-0. SMUS, however, quickly came back and scored an equalizer. Then, late in the game, the best goal in the history of soccer was scored. Brazilian Ulysses G skillfully flicked a bouncing ball over an opponent, then volleyed sideways scoring bar down. It was ridiculous! Messi, eat your heart out!

This goal proved to be the game winner. Brentwood then played Carihi High. Both teams were evenly matched but late in the game, we fell behind a goal. Incredibly, we quickly retaliated with Toby CH scoring a diving header. With minutes to play, Martin K rocketed a shot into the top corner, giving us the lead and, ultimately, the win. With one game left to play in the group stage on Friday at SMUS, we will then move on to the finals.
