For the Junior Girls Basketball team, this was a year of tremendous development, not only regarding technical, soft skills and relationships between players and coaches, but for the reputation of the junior girls in the basketball program. The first day of tryouts, there was a turnout that completely exceeded the expectations of the coaches.  From the moment that nearly 30 players stepped into the gym to try out, we knew that our team was going to push the boundaries. Our players developed an extraordinary amount over the course of the season, likely as a result of the fact that we had twice the number of games than we had practices. We were able to flourish during the season, doing most of our learning in game situations.  With the help of the dedication of our coaches, Ms Mackenzie & Ms Tarrant, and the leadership of our Captains, Rae W and Desola Og, we toiled many days of the week, whether in practices, conditioning, or games, and came out with results that I am certainly very proud of.  We won silver at the ISA tournament, jumping over many setbacks. Through that weekend, many of our players were injured, but we found a way to improvise and work as a unit to push through for this great result. Coming out of this season much stronger than we started, I am excited to imagine the contributions that my teammates and I can make to the girls’ basketball program in the future. The Foote Centre will be our home next winter: it will give us a leg up on the competition. Janessa P, Mackenzie ‘20
