Junior ISA Tennis Tournament 1

At four AM the Brentwood campus was silent. Not even a mouse stirred throughout the eight houses. Twelve junior boys and girls made the only noise on campus as they dragged themselves out of their comfy beds onto a cold metal bus. The zombie-like students snuggled down into the leather seats in hopes of sneaking in an extra hour of sleep before their ferry ride to Vancouver for the Junior ISA Tennis Tournament. When the team made it to UBC, they decided to get a nice warm up on two tennis courts in the middle of the campus before the real tournament began. After the twelve students got off the two courts, they marched to the indoor facility ready to face what lay ahead of them in hopes of bringing back some medals for Brentwood. The Boy’s Junior Tennis Team consisted of six Grade 10s: Ayden A, Nick P, Evan H, Daniel M, Federico C, and Will H. The first double partners where Nick and Ayden. Both had a tough tournament, winning only one out of their four games but they still managed to fight hard until the last minute. The second double partners were Federico and Will. Chemistry between the boys was made throughout the day as the dynamic duo battled hard and together rewarding themselves with three out of four wins. Evan H ‘18 played in the singles category and competed hard through the whole tournament but didn’t manage to snag a win. He was said to have “improved dramatically” by the coaches. The junior boys battled hard resulting in them finishing fourth overall in the tournament. The Junior Girls had a better outcome. Grade 9s Faye L and Tania C came out bursting with electricity as they were ready to take on their opponents. And most certainly they did. The partners, who have never played together before, pulled through and won all their games proving to be dangerous when together. The second double partnership was Tochukwu A and Lelia M. Both showed extreme enthusiasm and determination throughout the tournament winning every game. Jillian N went into the tournament with extreme maturity. This was her first ever tournament and she showed great skills and even better potential. Even though she did not win a game, she battled her hardest and left it all on the court. The whole Junior Girls team played exceptionally well and placed third in their category. The Tournament proved very useful; powerful partnerships were formed and base skills were enhanced to the next level just waiting to be used in our next games. The Junior Tennis Teams came home satisfied with their play; deep down the candle of determination was lit and now the teams are practicing even harder to win their upcoming Provincials and hit the ISAs next year with a running start.
