Mack House ’24-’25

After the Closing Day Ceremony last year, Mr Patel told me that Grade 12 was going to fly by. I never fully believed adults when they said this because it’s what they all say: but now, here I am, writing the end-of-year recap for Mackenzie House.

The year started quickly with a whopping 28 new Mack friends who settled into their routines. However, the very confusing, time-consuming, tricky sign-in times (lots of reminders were set on their phones) were definitely a struggle for some newcomers. Sign-ins were quickly made to be entertaining as the view from the foyer now included the bench circle outside, as the Mack & Ellis grade 9s quickly started to form their own PG remake of Love Island. Orientation was filled up to the brim with campus tours, awkward Mack/Ellis speed dating, Fun & Games, house meals in the cafeteria, introductory name games (Emma setting her phone wallpaper as people’s names), learning how to pass inspections, and more daily chaos.

As the weather became gloomier, the energy in the house still managed to persist: #1 inspections were dominated by Josephine and Nita, Mack Open House was a blast, Airband was a total win thanks to Rose & Myra (who are the best Interhouse Captains), and more yummy house dinners were made by Sydney, Abby and me. As the Grade 11s have now started their PIT training, I have full confidence that 2025/26 will be a successful year with their group.

A massive thank you is owed to Ms Cheung who, in times of stress, somehow managed to stay sane with no complaints – duty night after duty night. Another thank you to Ms Yang, who became our Assistant Houseparent in our time of need. For the whole duty team, this year has been anything but predictable, but you should know how much the house appreciates and acknowledges the sacrifices you have all made for us to stay successful at Brentwood.
