Mamma Mia Approaches Mightily

The Brentwood community has braved the classic Island weather brought to campus by second term. This month has been filled with cozy rainy days and magnificent clouds. However, as the sky clears and sunshine graces our campus, the opening night of Mamma Mia! Musical is fast approaching. Preparations have been churning since September and the production will run from March 1st to 4th. Get excited Brentwood!

When it comes to work ethic, the musical crew must be commended. On top of academics and sports, the whole cast has been rehearsing every arts day, as well as Sundays. Four times a week, the crew gathers to prepare the production for the public. Undoubtedly, this endeavor has been fun, but incredibly tiring. “Whenever the workload gets too much or it has been a rough day, I like to remember how it will all come together in the end. All this effort will pay off as soon as the curtain rises for opening night”, explains Serena H, Allard ‘24.

What has been exactly going on behind the curtain? Lead roles have been diligently running their dances, songs, and lines, on both arts and sports days. Even so, they are responsible for memorizing their lines in their own time. The rest of the cast has been tackling the dance numbers consistently. There can always be a troop of students found in the dance studio on musical days. With many dance numbers in the musical, it is no wonder the cast practices so enthusiastically.

All these hours have been beneficial to the progress of the musical. Ms Widenmaier, the Director, reveals that “Orchestra week is fast approaching. The cast and crew had a full-on full-day Winterlude rehearsal. We conquered a number of mountains and now are in the clean-up stages for some scenes”.

Every year, Brentwood sees hundreds of parents and community members flocking to the Killy Theatre for the show. Brentwood musicals have always been extremely popular throughout the community. Mamma Mia! Musical should bring an abundance of people as it is entirely “unique, including a good variety of acting, singing and dancing”, says Clare R, Hope ‘24.

Ms Widenmaier, along with the whole crew, urges everyone to purchase tickets promptly. “Tickets are selling quickly. The cast and crew are really fired up for the first performance”, mentions Ms Widemaier.
