It is hard being away from home, especially when you never intended to leave for so long.

As we are the smallest house on campus, it is no surprise that Alex House is one close family and being separated is a real heartbreak.

Like the other houses, Alex is doing everything we can to stay as connected as possible. Every Wednesday during tutorial time we have a house meeting, and although Mrs Warner and Ms Hall can not yell at us for “Leaving the kitchen an absolute mess!” we do find ways to laugh and relate to one another. For our house meetings, Mrs Warner prepares a different quiz or mini-game to play as a whole house and get everybody involved. “It’s so nice to see everyone in the house at least once a week. It makes me miss Alex a bit less,” admitted Milly B, Alex ‘23. Big-Littles is a house favourite as well: we get to chat and catch up in a more relaxed way every couple of Tuesdays.

We always keep in touch on the days of the week when we’re not together. In our group chat with the entire house, not a week goes by without getting a fun, delectable recipe to try or a new Netflix recommendation – not to mention our quarantine birthdays when happy messages snowball throughout the day.

Our caring community makes certain that every girl can feel loved through the distance: “To come from a house as close as Alex, it was a given that we would work as hard as we could to stay connected. The highlight of my week is getting to do our house meeting quizzes and trivia along with celebrating zoom birthdays and Big-Littles,” began our fearless House Captain, Grace M, Alex ‘20. “I’m sure I speak for all the girls when I say I am so grateful to have my Alex house community with me right now.”

Certainly, “There’s nothing more significant to our Alex House family than each other,” shared Sofia S, Alex ‘23.
