Not A Tragedy!

For the past few weeks, Mrs. Reynolds’ English 9 class has been creating a production of “Romeo and Juliet”, a harrowing tale that is not, in fact, a tragedy.
From emotional moments to funny remarks, the class picked volunteers, initially mostly male, to act using different tones and actions to express their feelings.
Drama also occurred as some members overacted and tried to steal the show. But as we continued to perform in locations such as the Lecture Theater and the Old Cafeteria, we began to understand the essence of the story and became more interested in acting; we paid attention to the details.
As the girls started to step up and become involved, the story become more interesting from Romeo and Juliet’s forbidden love to the surprising death of the mercurial Mercutio. The death of Romeo and Juliet and the largest scene the class ever attempted ran smoothly and the Grade 9s concluded their reading and acting of the “tragedy” of “Romeo and Juliet”.
