PTS Meetings – Everyone’s Favorite Day
At the culmination of the first two months of academics at Brentwood, parents get a chance to look into how their child is doing in each of their courses. Each student will meet with their teachers and parents – either Zoom or in person. These meetings will last ten minutes each and include conversations regarding their child’s current grade in the course, learning skills, past studies, and a general update.
This year’s first term Parent-Teacher-Student meetings began this Tuesday, October 19th, and will continue for three more sessions this term.
This events can be a very stressful time for some students who worry about how their parents will respond to their grades. Dexter O, Privett ‘22, was reminded of this, and explained that “Parent-Teacher-Student meetings, although beneficial, can be tough to sit through.” Despite the stress felt by some students, other scholars look forward to this day. Take Fabian H, Whittall ‘22, for example, who uses this day as, “concrete proof that my grades are as steady as a rock” he enthusiastically explains. “Hopefully my parents will believe me now.”
Although many students have different opinions regarding the meetings, it does not take away from the fact that they are a great way to get a better understanding of what you need to improve on, build on, and, and polish up on.
Ultimately, Parent-Teacher-Student meetings are a time of reflection and growth, as PTS meetings are a students’ golden ticket. Although, for some students, it can act as a wake-up call, no matter what you take away, understanding the importance of these conversations, and how they provide you with knowledge that can help your grades improve, is what really matters.
