Over the past few weeks, Felix D, Whittall ‘23 and I, along with the help of a few other Environmental Advocacy (EA) members, have been running an apple juice project. The goal of this initiative was to collect local, organic apples from people who needed their apple trees harvested or had excess apples they wanted to get rid of.

We made a few postings about how we were looking for apples and we received a large donation from a Duncan man who had 90 pounds of apples that he otherwise would not have used. We also went to Mr Paul Kleinschmidts’ house – he had offered to let us pick apples from two of his trees. Altogether we gathered about 150 pounds of apples.

After we had all the apples we needed, we purchased recycled glass bottles on Facebook Marketplace. Then we took the apples to Michel’s farm in Saanich and had them them pulped into juice (which is amazing if I do say so myself).

We have already enjoyed the juice at events hosted by EA and BEAT. We also have 20 litres ready to serve at the November 17 Speaker’s Conference focussing on climate action, social justice and democratic engagement.
