Relay for Life 1
On Sunday April 11, Brentwood College hosted its first annual Relay for Life event. Many members of the student body came out to participate in the event on Sunday morning, where they ran or walked a lap of the campus in support of this amazing cause.
Relay for Life is an event that is hosted by a multitude of schools and organizations alike, where its members participate in a run or a walk to raise money for cancer research and also to bring awareness to the number of Canadians that are affected by cancer. This event is hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society, however, it is up to the organisation hosting to decide how to raise money for the cause. Brentwood decided that like many other fundraising events at the school, selling t-shirts would be the most effective way to raise money. This initiative was coupled with an online donation website, where students, staff and friends could donate to the official Brentwood Relay for Life website.
Brentwood raised $20,890 both from t-shirt sales and the online donation website. A total of $1535 was raised from t-shirts and a huge congratulations is in order for Hope House as they raised an incredible $18,698. Hope House actively campaigned across their social media platforms and encouraged people and businesses outside of the school to donate. Another large thank you is owed to the BWell members and representatives who helped organise and volunteer for the event, either by selling t-shirts in the cafeteria or cheering on runners along the course.
The Relay for Life event was a great success as the school raised thousands of dollars which is being put directly towards cancer research. Additionally, the massive student and staff participation on the day of the run is greatly appreciated and contributed largely to the success of the event.
Everyone’s contributions, no matter how big or small, are greatly appreciated by the Canadian Cancer Society. Even though Brentwood’s Relay for Life event has concluded, the Canadian Cancer Society always has new projects underway and donations are helpful all throughout the year.
