Returning for 2019!

After a much needed break, Brentwood students return from all corners of the world last week to continue the 2018-2019 school year. Many mixed emotions come from faculty and students: “It went by way too quickly, but I am happy to be back!” Lindsey P said upon returning from a rejuvenating vacation to Egypt. While the academic, artistic and athletic side of Brentwood can be extremely exhausting, students were excited to return to their second home and second family. There was the warm greeting from your houseparent as you rolled your suitcase into the house. And a warm hug awaited you from your roommate who was already unpacked and ready to resume your normal nighttime routine. Even though it is nice to go home and sleep in your own bed, it is equally as satisfying to crawl into the bed that has housed many Sunday afternoons and late night essay writing. Even though nothing beats your mom’s spaghetti bolognese, walking into Crooks Hall for breakfast on your first day back and seeing the welcoming smiles from the kitchen staff could warm anyone instantly. A genuine exchange of how each other’s holidays were takes place. These interactions can often be taken for granted but I will definitely miss Lana’s kind smile when I graduate. Getting back into sport can be tough, but with the support from all of our coaches, the transition has been smooth sailing. Arts have been picked right up where they left off as much preparation is needed for the upcoming musical at the end of February. Finally, academics are taking a blast off with a math test rewrite night just around the corner to help students boost their grades, specifically for Grade 12’s before our marks get sent off to university. There is never a slow day at Brentwood, not even the first couple back. Everyone hit the ground running and we are all ready for another successful year! Hannah C, Alex ‘19
