Rolling the Dice on the Brentwood-Shawnigan Senior Mixer

On Friday February 1st, the seniors of Brentwood and Shawnigan Lake School came together for a social mixer hosted by Brentwood, where we were finally able to get to know one another off the court or field. Beginning at 7:30pm, Shawnigan bussed in their first group of Grade 12s from up the road. They were ushered into Crooks Hall which had been transformed from our dining hall into a Casino with the help of the Grad council, parent volunteers, and many other dedicated student volunteers. In the spirit of the Casino Night theme, fake money was printed out with the faces of both Brentwood’s and Shawnigan’s Heads, Mr. Patel & Mr Lamont. Casino games consisted of BlackJack, Poker, Roulette, Craps, and Wheel of Fortune, as well as games such as life-size Jenga, Snakes and Ladders, ring toss, bean bag toss, Yahtzee and Connect 4. Along with that, multiple tables were set up in the McNeill Centre for friendly games of water pong. Haley H thought “the water pong was the best part”. A wide variety of food was served to the students including yam fries, spring rolls, chicken strips, fruit, veggies, and floats for dessert. After two hours of water pong games and cards dealt, DJ’s Blake C, Dylan D, Jacob B, Omkar V, and Austin O brought everyone over to the dance floor to commence the dance that would end the night. Blake C said the “dance was a great way to make new friends who live just down the road and it was awesome to get together to have a stress-free night at this busy time in the year.” Many new friends were made. This pushed many of the students to want to continue to have more events planned with our neighbours. A huge thank you to the food services staff, parent and teacher volunteers, the Grad Council, and, last but not least, Mrs. Martin.
