Over the November midterm, Brentwood’s Holly CH, Mackenzie ‘17 earned a Gold Medal from The Royal Conservatory for her Level 9 Voice examination mark. Receiving the highest Level 9 mark in British Columbia, Holly was honored at the 2016 Vancouver Convocation & Gold Medals Ceremony. This marks the second time that Holly has been recognised at the Gold Medal level by The Royal Conservatory. The Royal Conservatory’s music education system is an integral part of Canada’s musical culture and education. Established in the early 20th century, The Royal Conservatory has established examination centres and an arts-based public education program. With members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra finding their roots in its program, The Royal Conservatory has a highly accomplished alumni list. A couple of standouts from the five million alumni are Diana Krall and David Foster. Holly’s recognition from this highly influential organization is a remarkable honour. Taught by Cobble Hill teacher Iris Cooke-Chislett, Holly has been singing since she was able to talk. A dedicated student to the arts, Holly also dances and recently completed her Grade Eight Royal Academy of Dance exam. As Brentwood’s 2016/2017 Musical Theatre Captain, Holly had a pivotal role in putting on the 2016 Brentwood Musical Theatre summer camps and returned to school more ready than ever to begin production on this year’s musical, “Mary Poppins”. Holly is set to play the musical’s eponymous protagonist in February 2017, and is already hard at work with rehearsals. Holly’s dedication to the arts will continue after Brentwood as she plans on pursuing musical theatre as a career. She works tirelessly with a passion that never seems to fade, and Brentwood’s arts program is very lucky to have her. Cara A, Mackenzie ‘17
