Rugby Girls Show Great Spirit at the Islands

Last Friday and Saturday the girls’ rugby team played very well to qualify for the BC provincial tournament. On Friday they beat a novice Ballenas team by 40 points, scoring a number of attractive tries. On Saturday, without 6 injured starters, they faced Shawnigan. The girls rose to the challenge magnificently, tackling and rucking superbly. Dani R scored on an 80m electrifying run to put us ahead 7-0 at the half. After the break, Shawnigan turned up the defensive pressure and went to a pick and go attack using their big forwards. We defended stoutly but simply ran out of gas, losing 7-17. It was a performance to be proud of, a sentiment echoed by all the parents on hand to support the girls.
