This past Monday & Tuesday the Senior Girls Soccer team travelled to SMUS to compete in the Island Championships, battling for a top four spot to earn a berth in the provincials. Starting off with imperative pool play, on Monday morning the girls started out with South second-seeded Royal Bay, and played an excellent game. The girls competed hard with the skilled Victoria team, and employed grit to pull off a 2-0 win, gaining a very important three points. With goals by Cate B, Allard ‘17 and Kaela S, Allard ‘16, the squad ended up victorious.  Later that afternoon, the team played local rivals Ladysmith Secondary. The game was hard-fought, gritty, and extremely competitive. After a nil-nil tie through almost the entire game, Ladysmith managed to score, and the game came to a close.  The next morning the team faced a must-win game against a tough squad from Brooks, and they rose to the occasion. With goals from Kaela S, Allard ‘16, Renee L, Hope ‘16, and Pria F, Hope ‘17, Brentwood took a compelling 3-1 win over Brooks and launched themselves to a second place finish in their pool and a chance to play for bronze. This assured the team a spot at the Provincial Championships!  In the third place game, against a skilled side from Carihi, Brentwood conceded goals late in a close match that went to overtime. Despite the loss in the final game, the Brentwood girls still earned a spot to the provincial championships held in Campbell River in early June.  This is the first time Brentwood has been to girls’ soccer provincials since 2011, and we are looking forward to some great soccer playing at a provincial level!
