The alarm started beeping at 5:40 am. The rowers and coaches arose from their beds. Slowly, everyone started heading towards the bus to the Shawnigan Lake Regatta, one of the most important regattas of the year. The results would determine the seat rankings for the CSSRA, also known as nationals. There are a lot of rowing clubs participating in this event including Burnaby Lake Rowing Club, Clairemont Sports Institute, Crofton House School, Deep Cove Rowing Club, Delta Deas Rowing Club, Fort Langley Youth Rowing Society, George Narrow Rowing Club, Maple Bay Rowing Club, Nanaimo Rowing Club, Salt Spring Island Rowing Club, Sentinel Secondary School, Shawnigan Lake School, St George’s School, St. Michael University School, Thunder Rowing Crew, Vancouver College, Vancouver Rowing Club, and Victory RC Juniors. Despite the hard roads ahead, everyone was optimistic and up for the challenge. Brentwood did very well and several boats placed in the top three or above. In the Under 19 Men 2x category, Riley T, Rogers ’18 placed second with a time of 7:25.12 minutes. The next double Under 19 Men 2x, led by Jacob P, Whittal ’18 placed first with the time of 6:42.63minutes. Following up in the same race, the boat led by Jamaal H, Whittal’18 placed third with a time of 6:50.05 minutes. Even though everyone was exhausted, there was a lot of effort shown. The last regatta for the season after the Shawnigan Lake Regatta is the CSSRA, in which Brentwood will be sending many boats to participate. Book P, Privett ‘20
