Silver Star Ski Adventure

Silver Star Ski Adventure

17 February 2012Michelle C & Mariana M

Over the midterm break, thirty-four students, two teachers, our Deputy Head of School and two interns journeyed to Silver Star in the Okanagan for the annual mid-term ski trip. It was a really good experience and everyone had lots of fun. We had the opportunity to ski and snowboard, take lessons, ice skate, go tubing, and relax in the hot tubs every day. Everyone enjoyed themselves and made good use of all of the facilities that were available.

For some, this was the very first time that they had skied and faced a Canadian winter! We were really able to relax and spend time with friends, which was one of the best parts of the trip. We were not at the mercy of school bells, and could therefore get up whenever we wanted to enjoy the fresh mountain air, or even spend the day in the hot tub.

It was interesting sharing a condo at the Silver Creek Lodge with three other people. They were big enough to provide some personal space, but everyone was still pretty close. We got to make our own meals and cook for each other as well, which was a lot of fun. Some of us even learned how to use a dishwasher!

We were lucky enough to have good conditions on the mountain, having some very sunny days, but also some cloudier days that brought really good snow. It was nice to see familiar faces while we were skiing. Most of the time people ski with their families, but it was a whole different experience for us to be able to be with our friends and teachers.

On the last night of the trip we had a big dinner with all thirty-nine of us which included a surprise visit from Head Prefect Ian McDonald.  The dinner was a good chance to spend the last night as a group, share some more laughs and enjoy each other’s company.

The staff that supervised us were fun to be with, and the experience allowed us to see them in a different light.  We would all like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Flynn, Mr. Allpress, Ms. St. John, and Ms. Niblett for taking us on the trip.

It was a very good experience for everyone and we have lots of fun memories to take back with us.
