Smiling for Spring!

It’s that time of year when two words are excitedly tumbling off the tip of everyone’s tongue: third term. To Brentonians, the phrase means more than the final trimester of the school year. Third term at Brentwood implies coming out of winter hibernation to embrace sunshine, longer days, spikeball on the rugby field, and swimming in Mill Bay. Spring weather and all of the joys that come with it serve as the light at the end of the tunnel, powering the community through the gray and rainy winter weather.

For our new staff and students, this is the first spring they will experience at Brentwood. Alexandra BFA, Ms Miller, “can’t wait for more sun especially sunrises during breakfast or long nights out on the field watching a game.”

It’s no wonder third term receives the hype it does – there is so much to look forward to. Between the 51st annual Brentwood Rowing Regatta, Evening of Dance, Concert for A Summer’s Eve, Senior Play, Rugby & Girls Soccer Showcases, and picnics on the field with friends, students at Brentwood will be busy in the next few months, balancing fun with studying for AP exams and finals. “Third term is my favorite time on campus,” remarked rower and fervent academic, Ty D, Whittall ‘23. “I am looking forward to the Regatta and spending time in the warm weather with my friends.”

For the Grade 12s, third term has additional meaning. It is the last term they will spend on Brentwood campus before taking off to pursue their post-secondary plans. While this is a sentimental time for many grads, it is also a chance to reflect on their learning journey and savour every minute they have left on campus. Grad President Hazel L, Allard ‘23 commented on the significance of this time for the Grade 12s: “After Spring Break, we only have about two months left on campus together, so I would tell the grads to make the most of every moment.”

The school truly comes alive in the spring, bustling with excitement, activity, and an appreciation for the beautiful weather. Get excited Brentwod, because spring hs sprung.
