Snowball ‘23 – An Avalanche of Fun!

What is Snowball?

With about a week left before we were released for Winter Break, we Brentwood students fell into what I fondly call the ‘Brentwood slump’ when most students are hanging on tooth and nail, patiently waiting for days to tick down to see family back at home. Pretty much all of the staff are aware of this phenomenon, so to counteract this slide there are a plethora of events leading up to the break. Concert For A Winter Eve, the Staff Children’s party hosted by the SAC, house trips, and the most exciting of all, Snowball.

For all unaware, Snowball is a formal night where Crooks Hall gets transformed into a winter wonderland, with lights and decorations galore, and students get dressed up for a dinner and an evening show. With some of the best food and an entertaining comedian, it is one of the most looked-forward-to events at Brentwood. The day before the event, I bumped into the SAC Sponsor, Ms Ramsey, who was preparing to decorate. She said “It’s a lot of work” but is “always worth it”. I would agree. In less than 24 hours Ms Ramsey – with the help of parent volunteers, the Grad Council and the SAC – turned Crooks into a completely different space. It’s always a highlight to see everyone’s faces when they walk in.

My favourte thing about Snowball is witnessing the mad rush at 5:30, when the bathrooms are packed with girls getting ready, people running around for last-minute things, and millions of photos being taken. The whole night is a highlight really, between the table of friends you’re sitting with, the food, and the comedy show. Talk to any Brentwood student and they are likely to tell you it’s one of their best Brentwood memories.

I want to thank all the volunteers who helped put this event together – including the tireless photography team of parent and grandparent Berle and Japp Zwaan. Without your hard work, this night would not have been possible. A big shout out also to Ms Ramsay who is the mastermind behind this whole thing, and, as always, to our Food Services team who outdid themselves for this event. Thank you!
