Sweater Weather
Sweater weather is better weather.
Seasons change and the leaves turn red; the crisp air fills your lungs, clouds of vapour rise from your lips above the misty haze below.
Sweater weather is better weather. Warm and cozy, curled up in bed with a novel, what could be better? Rusty’s runs invariably increase in frequency; student wrapped in colourful scarves huddle gratefully around mugs of tea and hot chocolate. The fall winds and the first driving rains meet, raging war against the campus. But we’re sheltered by the storm in our houses and our big, comfy sweaters.
Sweater weather is better weather: listening to whatever indie song plays on iTunes next, settling down for homework, bundled in blankets and slippers.
Sweater weather is better weather. Gumboots and umbrellas become common accessories; flashes of red, orange and yellow dot the campus. We salute the change in season, summer nothing more than a faint memory and a faded tan-line.
Fall is also a time of appreciation: appreciation for the fruitful year passed, celebrated by Canadian Thanksgiving. As we adjust and re-adjust to the fast-paced schedule that is Brentwood life, it is important to remember to be thankful.
Sweater weather is better weather. A collective sigh is just around the corner: midterm break is enjoyed by everyone for its promise of a deep breath and a good night’s sleep. Between university applications, PSATs, tests, term papers, Fabrications (an annual speech competition), extra curricular activities and all the rest that the average Brentwood student juggles, break is a much-needed escape. Not to be forgotten is Halloween, marked by the fall dance and the haunted house.
As you hunker down to finish the second half of the first term, remember to grab your favourite sweater and snuggle up somewhere warm and cozy; take a minute to breathe as the trees relinquish their hold on the leaves and the rain cascades down on your window sill.
