Taming the Monster Erg

The sky was cloudy, but their hearts and minds were clear as forty Brentwood students packed their unisuits and set forth for the exciting Monster Erg competition in Victoria BC. With high spirits and stoic determination, the rowers were hoping for low splits. Upon arrival at the University of Victoria’s CARSA (Centre for Athletics, Recreation, and Special Abilities) the team was just in time to see the Senior Men’s heat where they were taken aback by a 5:49 erg score. That’s promising for the National Team. The Junior A Heavyweight men were the first to dive into their race. Brett V, Privett ‘16 reigned victorious with a time of 6:16. The Junior A Lightweight event followed: Francesco M, Ellis ‘16 won in a time of 6:40 and Aidan W, Ellis ‘17 came third in 6:54. Kate W, Allard ‘17 placed a respectable third place in the Junior A Lightweight Women’s division. The Junior B Boys took part in Brentwood’s closest race of the day: Oliver W, Privett ‘18 managed to finish an impressive second and Will P, Whittall ‘18 came third, only one second behind. After the main event, Francesco, Peter, Phil, Brett, and Joe were selected to the High School All-star Team to compete against the University of Victoria in a five hundred meter race. Josie S, Alex ‘16 was also selected for the women’s All-Star Team. The event was a success for the Brentwood Rowing Program. We are thankful to the University of Victoria for hosting the event and looks forward to going back next year. Francesco M & Joe M
