TEDx Victoria
On a nice Saturday morning last term fifteen students attended a TEDx conference in Victoria. The theme of this conference was “Emergence.” Some examples of the topics were “I Seek Failure” and “The Power to Question”. These were two of the many speeches sticking in our heads as we reluctantly left the theatre to head home. We arrived, got our tickets and passes, and then waited for the first talks to begin. After being told about green coffee roasters (eco-friendly, not just painted green), organic farming, and how one can stop time, we were inspired by Adam Kreek’s “I Seek Failure.” Adam is a Canadian Gold Medal Olympic rower who also tried to row across the Atlantic Ocean but his rowing shell flipped; he said he got more out of the failure than if he had succeeded. This TEDx conference was an extraordinary experience, leaving me wanting to see more of these conferences or to present at one. A big thank you to the IT office for organizing this wonderful trip.
