Thanksgiving Dinner and Concert 1

At assembly last Thursday, both Mr Patel and Mr Felix expressed how rare and special it is that the whole school gets to share a meal together as one. We had this opportunity, however, the day before we all departed for an extended Thanksgiving weekend. The school’s Canadian Thanksgiving is no doubt one of the most amazing meals of the year. On Thursday October 5th, the fantastic food services staff spent hours preparing, for the students and staff, a traditional and delicious Thanksgiving dinner featuring turkey and ham, brussel sprouts, roast squash, salads, artisan breads, and of course, pumpkin pie tarts. Seated in long rows organized by house, dressed impeccably in Number 1 uniforms, all students eagerly awaited the dinner and concert to follow. Even the Grade 9s, arriving back from their adventure in Strathcona Park, managed to join the rest of the school for this occasion. After Head Prefect Lulu J, Allard ‘19 said grace, all students and staff savoured the amazing meal, and enjoyed the privilege of sitting down and sharing something so special with the whole Brentwood community together as one. “It reminded me of the festivals at Hogwarts!” Waca U, Mackenzie ‘21 said. “The energy in the room was really positive and exciting. Everyone was talking to each other, and having a good time”. When the meal was finished and the table cleared, the lights turned to the stage at the front of Crooks Hall, prepared for the annual Thanksgiving cabaret. As the first concert of the year, it gave new performers a chance to showcase their talents, and returning students were able to share their music with us once more. From beautiful solo performances to small and talented groups, the vocal music brought everyone in the school together, and gave us a few moments to truly appreciate everything that we have as members of the Brentwood community. After a refreshing couple of days off and the chance to enjoy Thanksgiving with their families, students returned to school to continue on with our school routines, but the Thanksgiving dinner and concert gave us even more reason to never lose sight of what we are truly grateful for.
