The Closing Act

Concert for a Summers Eve, held on May 30th and 31st, was a celebration of diverse talents and musical styles. The two majestic nights were filled with string ensemble performances and a plethora of solo acts, each unique. Assistant Head Prefect for Arts, Gillian D, Hope ‘24 , the MC for both evenings, guided the audience through various pieces that Brentwood’s musical community had put together for the school.

The string ensemble opened the performance, playing three pieces, ‘Promenade, V. The Hut of Baba-Yaga and VI, The Great Gate of Kiev’. Members of the ensemble practiced rigorously to perfect these and were able to deliver them with grace and fluency. Joshua F, Privett’ 24, a member of the string ensemble, mentioned that the orchestra “spent a lot of hours dedicated to practicing and were very happy with the outcome”.

One performances was delivered in French as Estelle D, Allard ‘24, sang La Boheme by Charles Aznavour, a beautiful piece. Sophie S, Alex ‘24 felt her performance was “mesmerizing”. “When Estelle was singing it was as if the whole world melted away and it was just her on stage. The emotion and intensity in her voice was so unique and incredible, it was my favourite performance of the night”.

One of the final acts was Isaac K, who captivated the audience with his rendition of Michael Buble’s ‘Feeling Good’. Elias F, Privett ‘24 thought “he had unmatched charisma” with his delivery and style. The next evening, Toluwani A, Alex ‘24, was equally impressed, stating “Isaac Koontz truly shocked me. The strength of his voice, confidence in his gestures, and his overall performance”.

The night was closed with reenactments of Brentwood musicals performed throughout the century. This Centenary Medley was completed by members of the Musical group and Ms Miller felt it was “So cool to see some of the old songs come to life again … the musical crew brought such amazing light and energy to them. It was fun and silly and I smiled the entire time.”

Brentwood’s last concert of the centenary year was truly breathtaking. It displayed the students’ talent from orchestral pieces to rock band performances and was a phenomenal kickstart to the summer break!
