The Finale for Senior A Volleyball’s Grade 12s

On Saturday, November 30th, the Brentwood Senior A Volleyball team took the court in the Wheaton Gymnasium for the last time this season, and for the Grade 12s, the last time forever. Basma J, Allard ‘25 stated: “Even though it’s difficult to have our time in this program come to an end, we’re excited to give everything we’ve got and walk away with no regrets”. With nine Grade 12s on the team, we were ready to go to battle.

After a tough loss in the quarterfinals against the Kalamalka Lakers the previous day, we woke up and persevered through our next match against Richmond Christian in a nail-biter of a match. Winning this match set us up to play against a strong Langley Christian team for the fifth-place spot in the Province.

After an emotional battle with Langley Christian, we came out on top, 25-23, 28-26. As match point was scored, the team rushed the court and embraced as a season filled with ups and downs, injuries and triumphs, came to an end. Assistant Coach, Ms Manton, stated “The match against Langley Christian was the perfect finale to our season, with the girls leaving everything on their home court. They showcased the growth, skill, and teamwork they’d built all year, delivering some of their best volleyball to date in a thrilling two-set victory.”

The cherry on top was the wonderful closing dinner that was hosted by Co-Captain Ruby M, Allard ‘25. When asked about the emotions in the air, Ruby shared “It’s hard to truly describe my feelings of gratitude for this team and this program. I am so lucky to be surrounded by girls that aren’t just teammates and friends, but family”. The night was filled with good food, teary-eyed speeches and gift exchanges; it was the perfect ending to a perfect season. Thank you to all of my teammates for making this season one to remember.
