Tradition in Motion – Spirit Week

Brentwood was packed with school pride during Spirit Week, starting off strong with Twin Day. Everyone really brought their A-game with impressive matching outfits; even the faculty got in on the fun! From identical tracksuits to perfectly coordinated hair ribbons, the hallways were filled with double-takes.

Tuesday’s House Colour Explosion proved that nothing motivates a Brentwood student like interhouse points. We saw everything from full-body paint to Whittall Assistant Houseparent, Ms Ramsay’s, iconic feather outfit. According to Ms Ramsay, “If we’re going to win those points, we’re going to look spectacular doing it!”

Thursday’s assembly really brought the noise with the BEAT Eco-Rap finals. We saw some serious bars dropped in the name of sustainability. Alex House performed their upbeat verse live, led by Ashley M, Alex ‘26, accompanied by some very skilled grade 12 backup dancers – and the lyricist, Michelle M, Alex ‘29. “The BEATs were almost as good as the lyrics, which made it even better,” shared Bili M, Hope ‘26.

As good as the start was, this week is far from over. The focus shifted over to McNeill’s for Giant Jenga. This isn’t just a game of steady hands; with interhouse points on the line, every block pulled is a strategic move for the standings. “The pressure is on,” says Aisa Y, Hope ‘27. With only one player from each house participating, the stakes were sure to be high.

Finally, Saturday was Hockey Night in Mill Bay! The Hockey Showcase were the last but certainly not least, Spirit Week events. As one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, the stands were packed with a sea of black and red attire. The rink transformed into a complete Brentwood takeover. Mr. Gage, Head of Athletics, even claimed that it’s “one of the best nights for sports in the province.” Congrats to the girls and the boys who both defeated Shawnigan.

This incredible week would not have been possible without the people working behind the scenes. A massive thank you goes to Ms Ramsay, the SAC, and the Interhouse Captains for their hard work and organization in making Spirit Week so successful. Another big thank you to the student and staff photographers who have been capturing the highlights and the hustle all week long.
