Trio of Wins for Junior Soccer

Saturday was an exciting day for the Junior Girl Soccer team. It was our first time playing as a team against other schools since our win against QMS last week.

We were unsure of what things were going to be like since we would play against two teams we hadn’t played before, all our grade nine players were sleep-deprived from their 14A adventure Friday night, and the weather looked grimy.
As we started to warm up, we realized that the sun was coming out, and slowly our energy started to pick up. By the sound of the opening whistle, we were ready to go against Gulf Islands.

By half-time we were up 2-0, ready to take that win and savor it, but we still had thirty minutes to battle before we could call this game ours. In the second half we took one goal but allowed another. The final score was 3-1, with goals from Mackenna H, Ellie K and Avi S.

We had a half hour of rest before our next game against the one-and-only, Shawnigan Lake. We were nervous because we knew it was going to be a hard game, and then the whistle blew.

It started pretty rough, with the ball going from one place to the other with no team really staying on one side of the field. We were able to push more towards their end by halftime, but it was a struggle. The second half came and we kept battling until Avi S was able to score midway through the half. After this, our senses lightened but we needed to keep it strong and not let them get back. Three minutes later Avi scored a second goal. That 2-0 score line held to the final whistle.

It was an awesome start to the season and we hope it will only get better!
