Triple Threats in the Making!

Gold and sparkly costumes are in the foreseeable future for the cast of A Chorus Line as they have begun the process of putting together a full-blown musical. As we get further and further into term one, the cast has progressed from full-cast dance numbers to scene work with Ms Widenmaier! A Chorus Line, is a close-up look at the chorus dancers, the unsung heroes of Broadway productions. Each scene looks directly at the characters’ pasts, and how they got to the audition they’re performing in today. Musical Captain, Clare R, Hope ‘24, says “Our team of sixty-six cast members have been putting in a lot of work to be ready to perform for you guys this spring”.

The principal characters of A Chorus Line tried something different this past week – they worked on their tap dancing skills. Not only was this an unexpected twist in dance rehearsal but it was also most people’s first time with a pair of tap shoes. What untapped potential as we hone our skills in dancing, acting and singing! One of the many great things about Brentwood’s multi-dimensional Arts Program is the number of new things you can try over the course of a year. I, much like many of my castmates, never thought we would be tap dancing, in our beautiful dance studio, on a rainy day. When asked about what it’s like teaching tap dance to absolute newbies, Ms Foreman said “It’s really rewarding seeing you guys be successful with the steps after working so hard to get it down”.

There are so many complicated choreographed numbers that have been an absolute blast to learn and perform. These dance routines have been pushing a lot of us out of our comfort zones, which is exactly what we all signed up for!

A big thanks to Mr Newns, Ms Staples, Ms Foreman, Ms Widenmaier, Ms Plough and Ms Smith for everything they have done so far to get this production ready for the Brentwood community, as well as all of the student leaders for helping everyone in the cast feel like part of a family.

So, get ready Brentwood, for a lot of glitz, glamour and high kicks at the Killy this February!
