Unstoppable Energy: Senior A Girls Volleyball!
What a busy start to the school year! If you’ve had the chance to catch the Senior A Girls’ Volleyball team recently, you can see the squad has been going nonstop since day one. Suiting up almost every weekend to compete against top-tier competition across the province, the girls have had an incredible season.
For their first tournament of the season, the team travelled to Vancouver for the prestigious UBC Mizuno Classic. Facing tough competition right out of the gate, like previous Provincial Champions Holy Cross and other strong teams, the girls showed remarkable chemistry and determination. Walking away with 1st place in their division, the bar was set high heading into the season.
Riding high on their opening victory, they headed up Island to the Dover Bay Invitational. Facing off against some truly tough 4A competition like NDSS and Vanier, the girls refused to back down. Playing gritty, high-energy volleyball, we swept through the tournament, winning every game we played. “We had so much fun this tournament, playing some of our best volleyball and continuing our win streak,” shares Captain Stella B, Hope ‘27.
The following weekend, heading into the Wellington Tournament without a majority of the roster due to conflicting schedules and injuries, the remaining players stepped up in a massive way. Facing local competition, the girls snagged a win against top Island team Esquimalt to earn a spot in the finals. They secured a hard-fought victory over Dover Bay to finish first. Once again, they continued their winning streak.
Last weekend, the team finally got to play in front of their home crowd as hosts of the Brentwood Classic. Hosting teams from across the province, including Alberta, there was definitely lots of excitement. With packed chairs filled with supportive classmates, teachers, and parents, the atmosphere was electric! Facing a field of fierce competition, the team battled hard to earn a strong 5th-place finish out of 20 teams. “It was nice to finally watch them play; the skill level of the games was crazy, and it’s super fun to cheer too,” shares Joanne C, Allard ‘28. The home crowd made every point worth cheering for, and the team’s hard work was on full display.
At the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Championship, the squad faced an intense weekend of volleyball. “The Senior A Volleyball team proudly won the Silver medal at the ISA Championships, showcasing exceptional teamwork, skill, and relentless determination throughout the weekend. The highlight of the tournament was the convincing semi-final win vs top-ranked York House. Our ability to work together, support one another, and rise to every challenge demonstrates the strength and unity of this outstanding result,” shares Head Coach Ms Fougner.
With a brilliant mix of experienced leaders and young talent stepping into crucial roles, the Senior Girls are looking exceptionally strong. Their energy, skill, and resilience have proven that they can compete with anyone in the province.
Make sure to keep showing up to support the team as they carry this incredible momentum into the heart of their season! Playoffs are just around the corner.
