On October 28, Brentwood welcomed back to the campus Mr. George Killy (Hope ‘64) and Mr. Paul Merrick whose combined influence on Brentwood’s performing and visual arts programmes has been enormous. Mr. Killy’s generous lead gift made it possible for Brentwood to proceed with the T. Gil Bunch Center for Performing Arts in 2003. More recently, the Killy Studio in the new Centre for Art and Humanities has been dedicated in appreciation of a further gift from Mr. Killy. Chair Emeritus of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Mr. Killy is Brentwood’s undisputed patron of the arts. Mr. Merrick was the architectural mastermind behind the T. Gil Bunch Centre for Performing Arts. He worked closely with Mr. Killy to design the Bunch Centre in honour of Gil Bunch, Brentwood’s former Assistant Headmaster, English Literature teacher and drama director, who became Mr. Killy’s mentor and longtime friend. Subsequently, Mr. Killy’s daughter Julia (Mackenzie ‘98), niece, Mira Avery (Mackenzie ‘2002) and his nephews Tim Tarling (Rogers ‘98), Kell Tarling (Ellis ‘98) and Davin Killy (Privett ‘13) have also attended Brentwood.
