Voyage Via Victoria
With strenuous university applications and demanding course loads, the Alex-Whittall House Captains figured that the Grade 12s needed some winding down time.
So, on Sunday, February 25th, twenty of us headed down to Victoria to enjoy some time to relax and simply enjoy ourselves. However, the minute we stepped down from the bus, the gusting winds swept past us, leaving everyone astonished.
Through the speckled drizzle and strong winds, each of us managed to get to our chosen areas. Some grabbed some scalding coffee and others headed down to Fan Tan Alley.
Along the minuscule pathways of Fan Tan Alley were towering staircases that led to vintage shops and boutiques. After picking a few pieces, the students gathered at the Cactus Club Café for a group dinner. Sophie S, Alex ‘24, said that the group dinner was “a fun way to get to know Grade 12s in our brother house” since the tables were mixed with Alex and Whittall members, allowing us to interact in an off-campus environment.
From double bacon cheeseburgers to tuna poke bowls, every dish was plated to perfection. Within seconds, meals were devoured. Despite the desserts looking like delectable delicacies, everyone refrained from ordering anything else. There was never a dull moment. As Harper PT, Whittall ‘24 said, “From the fire shows at the table, to hockey games in the bathroom, we all had a great time off campus indulging in some exceptional cuisine at the Cactus Club.”
Appreciative of the food and bonding experienced, each Grade 12 strolled back to the bus. To many, it was the pinnacle of the evening where the nightlife of Victoria was outlined by softly diffused light. With the BC Parliament Building outlined against the backdrop, several girls huddled to capture pictures while others rushed to the bus.
Mrs Warner found that “It was a great trip. It’s always fun to get off campus to explore Victoria and to shop, eat, get some Boba, and spend time with friends. It was nice to get together as a large group at Cactus Club to finish off the trip. A special outing for a special group of kids.”
Laughter, smiles, and friendly arguments summed up this convivial evening when the students returned to campus by 7:40 pm ready for the week ahead!
