Wilderness First Aid
Over the course of the last two weekends, ten outdoor enthusiasts made time to complete an intense 50 hour Wilderness First Aid course. In addition to learning first aid that they can apply in wilderness situations, this course taught the principles of proper trip planning, safety plans, risk management and the risks and complications of wilderness evacuation.
Students learned how to assess and monitor first aid situations from dehydration to compound fractures and how to build splints and stretchers out of resources available in a wilderness setting. Our instructor, Yuki Hayashi, provided an exciting, practical course that kept all participants engaged and on their toes.
Thank you to all staff and faculty at Brentwood who helped to accommodate the staff and students who participated in this event!
