Winter Fun & Games – Chaos and Community

Last weekend, students piled into the gym for Brentwood’s first-ever Winter Fun & Games, a lively twist on the annual Fun & Games event, which takes place at the start of every academic year.

Designed and run by Ms Ramsay, Whittall Assistant Houseparent and Head of the SAC, the event brought all eight houses together for an evening of high-energy competition, celebration, and “the kind of organized chaos only Brentwood can pull off,” according to Enrico L, Privett ‘26.

From the moment the first relay took off, the gym filled with a level of noise destined to make everyone’s voices absent the next day. Each house filled the bleachers, repping their house colours and warming up their chants. The games ranged from strategy-based tasks like marshmallow tower building to athletic relays, which inflicted stress on every Houseparent’s heart. All the games were carefully curated to test teamwork and a willingness to fully embrace the energetic atmosphere.

What made Winter Fun & Games so special wasn’t any single activity, but rather the constant shift of energy as the events changed. The transitions were seamless, keeping the momentum high and preventing the night from ever slowing down.

Most importantly, the event showcased each house’s pride and spirit. Students who normally keep quiet found themselves yelling out words of encouragement, and even those who started the evening out on the sidelines were inevitably pulled into the excitement. “By the time the final relay ended, my voice was sure hoarse, but it was all worth it,” stated Bili M, Hope ‘26.

Ms Ramsey, who has long championed Interhouse events, described the evening as “a balanced blend of chaos and connection.” This sentiment really speaks volumes because Winter Fun & Games wasn’t just about competing for Interhouse points: it was about recharging our community as we reach the halfway point of the academic year.
