Bo Bennett once quipped, “rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success. Following in the footsteps of those wise words, Mrs.Pennells addressed the issue of university rejections during this week’s assembly.
For the Grade 12s, applying to university is stressful enough, but the moment we receive that coveted letter, the stress peaks. Tearing open the seal and unfolding the crisp white paper is a moment of thrilling nerves and excitement. Upon reading the first few lines one’s heart either bursts with joy or falters in disappointment. The result is always a rush of emotion. The ecstasy or the agony?
For some, spring break was a tough time, receiving the unwanted news of rejection from their dream universities. But Mrs. Pennells’ message was one of optimism for those dealing with bruised dreams. It soothed the shaken spirits of members of the grad class. So whether you received positive or negative news from universities recently, remember that the future is still ours to determine. Just because one university doesn’t fully appreciate all of your many virtues doesn’t mean your dreams are lost. On the other hand, just because they said yes doesn’t mean your dreams have become reality. So 12s, continue to strive for success and never let a letter seal your fate.
PS. We can also take heart that Mr. Pennells and Mr. Rodrigues made us apply to several institutions. With eggs in numerous baskets, many are sure to hatch.
