Engineering 11: Advanced Design

This course expands on the design principles that students may have been introduced to in earlier studies. It will elevate students' learning from "making" to "thinking", moving beyond how to make things into why things are made, who they are for, what impact they have, and how design shapes behaviour and society. This course will be a rigorous, intellectual course, not just a hands-on elective. It will prepare students to think critically, create responsibly, and navigate complex real-world problems—competencies that align strongly with our school’s goals and 21st-century learning outcomes.

Students will produce portfolio-quality work while developing professional habits such as project management, documentation, and constructive response to feedback. Equally important, the course emphasizes responsible and sustainable making, encouraging students to consider environmental impact, accessibility, and ethical design decisions.

Course Prerequisite: It is recommended that students have taken a design-based course prior to taking this course.
