Scientific Illustration

Arts

This illustration course offers an innovative interdisciplinary approach, integrating science as a theme and the subject of artistic study—while encouraging visual, literary, and critical thinking. It will offer a structured approach to scientific and observational illustration, bridging the gap for students who are both artistically inclined and also interested in biological and environmental subjects. Students will:

  • develop technical illustration skills and artistic expression;

  • create original artworks based on scientific observation and inquiry;

  • build visual communication skills using both traditional and digital media;

  • analyze and interpret historical and contemporary scientific illustrations;

  • reflect critically on the creative process through sketchbooks and critiques.
