No Strings Theatre is a Toronto theatre group that created a professional environment for young adults to experience the intensity of putting on a live show. The program I participated in was six-weeks long which included master classes from working professionals, a creative program, and daily classes in all aspects of theatre. The creative program was the opportunity to write a song and a scene based on the theme of abuse. At the end of four weeks of creation we presented our final product in an original musical called “Scars: The Musical”. The video & cast recording will be available in October 2014. The main focus of the program was the production of “Little Women” at a professional level. I auditioned and received the role of Marmee. There were many ups and downs throughout the creative process but in the end we pulled together and supported each other like a company. The main struggle was when one of our leads, Aunt March, was sick and left five minutes before our second show was to start. We had the alternate go on and we joined together to make sure that the show went on. The summer program ended with a four night successful run at The Toronto Centre for the Arts (http://www.tocentre.com/). Tickets were available to the public. I now look forward to getting back into my fine arts routine at Brentwood including Musical Theatre, Acapella Show Choir, and Advance Choreography as well as private lessons in voice, dance, and piano.
