Varsity Volleyball’s First Tournament

To start the season off, the Senior Varsity Volleyball team travelled to UBC to participate in a play day. The tournament format was altered due to the teacher strike going on in B.C. In total, the team played eight exhibition matches with five wins and 3 losses. Throughout the weekend the girls grew closer learning better techniques of play as well as gaining mental strength critical to growth and further success for the future. The team consists of two Grade 10s, five Grade 11s and four Grade 12s who are eager to finish off their senior year strongly. Playing different positions, switching up the lineup, and learning with every point, the team continued to develop and grow into better players and a better team. On Friday the team lost a close one to Powell River but then defeated them on Saturday. The games were full of intensity and spirit with players like Allie W, and Katlan S leaving the weekend with three grit points while Hannah C, was a force to be reckoned with at the net with over 20 blocks. With eight games, fatigue came in waves but the girl pulled together as a unit and fought through with integrity. Squeezing in a game early on Saturday meant that the girls could load the bus and head for the ferry. The fun continued all the way back with childhood games and more team dynamic growing.
