Shopping is for the Weak, Play Rugby

While most of the Brentwood campus made its way to the city of Victoria on Sunday morning, a couple of our female rugby players traveled to the dark shadow over the hill known as Shawnigan Lake School where they competed in the VIRU Shawnigan 7’s U-18 Women Cup Championship. Upon arrival, the girls were introduced to their teammates for the day and after a 20 minute warm up, barely having met one another, they prepared for their first game. The Cowichan Piggies, nervous and uncertain, but with speed and agility, took on Comox. After winning their first game, the girls went on to play the Castaways: oops, they were defeated 5 tries to 1. Feeling demeaned, Cowichan knew what had to be done. Stepping up and sweeping away Velox, they faced Castaways once again in the finals. Keeping in their minds Mr. Felix’s pregame words of wisdom “Defense wins championships”, the girls came out hitting red and white jerseys left and right. They also got the ball outside to the wing who left the Castaways no hope of catching her straight to the posts. They controlled the rest of the game for a convincing 27-12 win. While most Brentonians came back to campus Sunday afternoon with purchases that their parents had paid for, Mckenna H, Mackenzie ‘16 and Avi S, Alexandra ‘16 brought home a gold cup which they had earned with blood, sweat, toil and tears.
