This past weekend the Senior Varsity Volleyball team travelled to a tournament at Vancouver Island University. After fitting in all of Friday’s classes, the girls headed to Nanaimo at 2pm to start the weekend. Upon arrival we geared up, focused our minds and started to warm up in unison.  The first match was against Mark Isfeld: with determination and joy the girls came away with the first win of the weekend. Before playing the next game at six, the girls stretched and shared their interests while munching away on some snacks. As we continuously change the lineup, all of the girls are learning how to play with every one of the twelve members on the team creating a very close and blended team both on and off the court.  During the next two games fatigue started to set in but the girls fought through the pain and prepared for the last game with a start time of 9pm.  Finishing the day strong with two wins and two ties, the players loaded up on the bus for the ride home to get some sleep before Saturday’s early start. Waking up and getting to the gym before most Brentonians had gone to breakfast, the girls were ready for the playoffs. As our first match was against the number one Triple A school in BC, we went out on the court with a strong mind-set. After winning the first set, we knew the second would be an even harder fight. Our opponents came out powerfully they took the second set sending us into a third set. Playing with resilience and intensity, we came away with a tight loss of 11-15. Although we lost, it was the best played game of the season.  As we won the next three games the tournament game to a close and we ended with 5 wins, 2 ties and a loss. The VIU tournament was a success for the Senior A Volleyball team and set us up well for the tournament this weekend at Camosun. Mollie MG, Mackenzie ‘15
