Turkey Appreciation Day

Ah yes, Thanksgiving, a time to put aside any differences and take stock of the beauty that surrounds our privileged lives. Discarding Plymouth’s smallpox ridden blankets and having a feast of Brentwood’s own, last Thursday night the school celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving. Just as Mr. Patel shared his Top 14 reasons that he was thankful, number one being Brentwood students, Head Prefect, Tyler P, Rogers ‘15, said grace before dinner, disclosing what he’s thankful for, number one being Brentwood students. He sounded like this: “The family-friend support and love that intertwines the student body is the whipping cream bonus that tops the pumpkin pie that is Brentwood.” These speeches generated warm fuzzy feelings for the Brentwood students, who gave themselves a pat on the back and an extra scoop of mashed potatoes, to treat themselves. Our Brentwood culinary artisans out-did themselves with an extravagant buffet (served by the SEC) of squash, brussel sprouts, stuffing, and everything besides the actual cornucopia. Once seated within their houses, ravenous teenagers salivated at the aroma of turkey—or for the vegetarians, seasoned bread—like a horde from the Walking Dead would for living flesh; one could feel the primal tension emanating from the tables waiting for sustenance, namely Rogers House, because they received their first serving while others were invited for seconds. The food was delicious and the company was divine and then Mr. Felix rose at the end of the feast, gave acknowledgements, and sent the students to the concert. Salacious serenading, a microphone malfunction, and poignant pianists were featured throughout the hour and a half menagerie. Joseph F ‘16, Andrew W ‘17, Faryn B ‘15, along with every performer of the night, managed to take the breath away from the bated audience with their charm and obvious talent. Sitting in the plush seating with prime entertainment, it was a wonderful kick off for the performing arts, setting the bar high for concerts to come! Finally, Thanksgiving Break, when students and faculty enjoy a mini weekend getaway to spend time with friends, family, and just relax.
