When the Stag Runs With the Bulls – Senior Boys Soccer Fall 2014

It was five. Five of the best. Five unanswered goals was enough to suppress the yellow army of Shawnigan, whilst additionally silencing all previous critics of the Senior Boys Brentwood Soccer team. A stalwart and now proven Brentwood side took to the pitch for what would be a memorable day for the Brentwood’s soccer elite, as they hosted their first official ‘Showcase’ showdown with longtime rivals Shawnigan Lake School. From the onset, the Brentwood side, skippered by Reid A, Whitall ‘15 began a bombardment on the Shawnigan goal. Ultimately, the spaghetti legs of a nervy Brentwood side were electrified into action as Toby CH, Privett ‘15, drew first blood with a sublime individual effort, one that left a befuddled opposition keeper seemingly infuriated. Efforts from the Shawnigan team were futile as Brentwood’s Salman K, Privett ‘16 added another to the tally shortly after, and victory was sealed with a fiery red ribbon before half time followed by goals from Breno C, Whitall ‘16 and another stunning strike from Toby. Salman also bagged another to complete his brace and subsequently add to the already overwhelming deficit, cementing the five goal cushion, and hoisting the banner of victory once and for all. Overall, it was a step toward greener pastures for an accomplished squad (Island Junior Champions in ‘12) igniting a competitive flame between the two respected schools that will undoubtedly carry through to additional showcase events for the years to come.
